Even the most seasoned lash artist will experience irregularities in their product performance from time to time. As we mentioned in this article https://mintbeautypro.com/blogs/news/the-truth-about-lash-adhesives it may not always be your adhesive that is the problem. If your car won’t start you don't replace the entire engine before you check the gas gauge, right? Here are some Adhesive Troubleshooting points to consider. Remember, that even a small change may be the cause of a bigger problem, start with these issues and if nothing is out of the ordinary, you should reach out to customer service for further assistance.
The information in this blog is taken directly form the M.INT Lashes Classic Fundamentals manual and applies to the M.INT Lashes brand of adhesives. Please reach out to the seller of any products outside of our brand for furher support.
Use your glue in a stable environment. Seasonal changes and weather conditions may affect your retention and varies depending where you are located. The best temperature for the working space is 18-25° and 30-65% humidity. If temperature and humidity are too low or high, the adhesion and viscosity will change.
Use a dehumidifier for humid environments. Place a thermo hygrometer in your working area to control temperature and humidity. Here are some adhesive related questions you should be asking regularly:
Have the environment conditions changed inside or outside of the lash room?
How am I storing my adhesive? Was it stored in an environment where I wasn’t controlling the temperature?
Best way to store your adhesive is in an airtight container or zip bag with a silica pack or rice in a cool, dry place. If for some reason you can’t maintain a stable environment, it is recommended to keep it in the fridge.
Is the adhesive drying too fast or too slow for me?
If you have recently changed adhesive, then you need to understand it won’t work the same as your old adhesive. Take the time to get to know your new adhesive.
When did I buy this adhesive, and when did you open it?
If the adhesive was bought 3 months ago, then it's time to replace it. When your new adhesive arrives, label the bottle when it arrives and when you opened it to ensure freshness.
Did I shake my adhesive?
Give your adhesive at good 10-15 second shake to mix all the ingredients together.
Am I replacing my glue dots every 15- 20 minutes?
Depending on your humidity and temperature it is imperative to replace your glue dots when it becomes sticky or tacky.
Am I keeping my adhesive fresh?
You have to store glue in a stable environment (temperature & humidity). Please remember frequent temperature fluctuations will affect the function of the glue. The adhesion could be bad if the glue is an old one, so make sure if you are using fresh glue.
Did I burp my adhesive? Am I closing the cap tightly after each use?
Exposing glue to oxygen could change viscosity and diminish the life of the glue. If you leave the glue without the lid for a long time or open and close it frequently, the viscosity will change. It will be thick and gummy and will lose its adhesion. You need to block oxygen as much as possible. We recommend you check if the cap is tightly closed after using and wipe off the lid as well as the nozzle. Add a small packet of silica gel to a zippered bag. This keeps glue away from oxygen and humidity, as well as direct exposure to sunlight.
Have all clients been affected or just one?
Ever thought about the fact that it could be your clients’ fault and not yours? Or both? Sometimes it's 50% you and 50% client. Take the time to troubleshoot and ask your client the right questions.
Did I use before-care products before applying the adhesive?
If you care about adhesion, retention, and drying time, use the glue with before-care products such as a lash wash, primer, pre-treatment, and protein remover. These products have great influence on retention.
However, if the Nanomister wasn’t used at a proper distance, there was a chance that the drying adhesive’s fumes could still escape and irritate your client’s eyes. What can be done about those instances?
Introducing our Lash Bonder! This marvelous new product will help you complete your set of lashes with the knowledge that you don’t need to worry about fumes or adhesive that hasn’t dried yet. This bonder will help extend the life of lash extensions while simultaneously reducing any irritation. Applying the lash bond will expel any humidity out of the adhesive surface, effectively sealing and creating a tighter bond that also blocks out any potential fumes. This also adds more elasticity to the adhesive bonding points, which will make the lashes more flexible, less chance of breakage or fall out, and will be less sensitive to the touch.
As there will be reduced fumes, the Lash Bond makes it much safer for both clients and professionals as everyone will be protected from any fumes that may irritate the eyes.
Including the Lash Bond into your services will completely eliminate the need to use a Nanomister, as the formula of the Lash Bond mixes with the cyanoacrylate in the glue and cures from within. Nanomisters cure from outside in and can trap humidity within the adhesive, meaning the adhesive surface stays porous, the bond is not as strong, and more fumes can be released causing discomfort.
With our new Lash Bond, it will revolutionize the way you complete your lash sets and your clients will thank you for it!
How to Use:
First, did you select the correct adhesive according to your experience?
When purchasing lash adhesive, many lash artists are looking for the strongest and the fastest, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be the best one for you. The strongest adhesives usually means the fastest drying, so here is where the trouble lies. If you normally take 3-5 seconds to place a lash or fan but you are using an adhesive that dries in 0.5 - 1 second, then the adhesive is not going to work for you! It’s going to dry en route to the natural lash and won’t even stick to the natural lash. To start, we always recommend selecting an adhesive that is slower drying, like the M.INT Pro Elite Adhesive as this will give you a little more time to work. It will still do its job well, it’s just that it will better suit you and your level of experience at the moment. Once you gain more experience, you can select a faster drying adhesive such as the M.INT Clear Adhesive!
Second, are your environment conditions under control?
We hear all too often that your adhesive was working fine before, and suddenly it’s not working anymore. This means that something has changed in your environment, it’s rarely the adhesive.
What is the humidity in your working environment? What’s the temperature set to? Do you know the ideal conditions for the adhesive you’re using? Keep in mind that depending on the season and time of day, these environments can affect your adhesive performance. We also recommend using a hygrometer to monitor your room, in case you need to make some adjustments. Check out M.INT’s Hygrometer here! Also, your supplier is always available with any type of questions regarding your adhesive.
Lastly, are you taking good care of your glue and storing it properly?
If you’re not taking care of your glue, you shouldn’t be surprised if your adhesive comes out gloopy or the nozzle gets clogged. When it comes to your glue, you should always do the following:
So, going through the info above, what is your conclusion? It might take some work to know everything about your adhesives, but if you want that relationship to last, it will be worth it in the end.

]]>Most of 2020 has been just a blur. With the sudden lockdown and mandated closures of businesses, a lot of us resorted to doing our own tweezings, hair trimmings, and waxing, and who knows what other self services. And even with businesses that have slowly opened up, some of us made a beeline for the salons because we felt we were a million years overdue for a mani pedi, a cut and color, or getting a fresh set of lashes. But some of us didn’t, still being wary of the pandemic, and have been taking things cautiously still (I got my first haircut in almost a year last week!)
Whatever your reasons, I’m sure your lash tech, hairdresser, and nail techs are all extremely excited to see your gorgeous, albeit masked, faces again!
Regardless of the lack of lash extensions and neatly kept eyebrows, remember that all these beauty services are only prettying up the surface. Real beauty comes from within.
No thanks to Social Media, many are pulled into this invisible competition of ridiculously high beauty standards. Many of us feel a need to get our nails done all the time and our lash extensions applied so that we look and feel a certain way.
Don’t forget that the services we purchase will only enhance your outer appearance. True beauty comes from within, because if you don’t believe you are beautiful yourself, it’s likely others won’t either. Love yourself first so that others can love you too.
“Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.” - Sophia Loren
We understand that many of us are still unable to, or not wanting to brave a cramped salon just yet, and while lash extensions may not be an option, beautiful lashes, without an appointment still are.
Check out www.mintnetic.com for gorgeous strip lashes. These soft and fluffy lashes are vegan and used with our adhesive liner pens that come in clear, black and brown. Easy and comfortable all day wear, these will be your new favourite strip lash!

For the longest time, all clients had to wait a period of 24 hours before they could get their lashes wet. This meant they couldn’t shower, couldn’t go swimming, couldn’t even wash their face! But no more! No longer do you need to wait a full 24 hours before you can splash some water on your face, and here’s why: Polymerization!
What is Polymerization?
In scientific terms, polymerization is when smaller molecules join together chemically to create a larger chain or network of molecules. Cyanoacrylate, the main active ingredient in eyelash extension adhesive, needs to polymerize in order for the lash glue to cure, changing it from a liquid to a hard solid. A completely cured adhesive allows the lash extensions to get wet without losing any of its adhesive properties.
When cyanoacrylate interacts with water, it creates polymers (or chains) of cyanoacrylate. The water triggers a chemical reaction that transforms the liquid glue into a solid. Since there is water found in the air (humidity), cyanoacrylate will polymerize over time, which was the original 24 hour waiting period. This is also why cyanoacrylate has a short shelf life and is always kept in an airtight container.
Sometimes, during an extension application, the middle layers of the adhesive have not been exposed to water and the adhesive never fully solidifies or does so over an extended period of time. Since polymerization causes fumes, the slower process can cause irritation and a burning sensation as the inner layers of the adhesive dry. This can be more noticeable when the extensions have been exposed to water shortly after application.
With traditional methods, clients were always instructed to wait at least 24 hours before getting their lashes wet to allow the adhesive to polymerize, now with a better understanding of the chemistry, we cut out the 24 hour waiting period completely by using the Nano Mister and Post Washing the Lashes! Since moisture is what cures the adhesive, the Nano Mister helps by introducing a micro fine amount of moisture to the completed set after the adhesive has tried to help fully polymerize the bond between the natural and extension lashes. Post washing the lashes creates a water tight seal and leaves the client with fresh and fluffy lashes.
It’s very important to use the Nano Mister after you allow the adhesive to dry on the outside, you can tell when the adhesive will lose its shine a few seconds after the extension is placed on the natural lash. This is important for those mid appointment mistings you may need throughout the appointment. If you introduce moisture too early, this can lead to shock polymerization. Shock polymerization occurs when the adhesive is introduced to moisture too early and only cures on the outside, but the inner layers of the adhesive are not yet dry. This can cause white spots on the adhesive (known as 'blooming') and lead to irritation to the client’s eyes when they come into contact later as the fumes will escape.
So how do you post-wash the lashes?
And that’s it! The simple tool of the Nano Mister and the act of Post Washing can make all the difference for how long your client has to wait before they can go wash their face or take a shower. Not only will it also help reduce any irritation from adhesive fumes, but it also feels amazing and refreshing!

Canadian Thanksgiving is behind us and Halloween is right around the corner. It’s a busy month!
In today's post I wanted to bring up a subject that is near and dear to my heart as you may know, your lash education.
We know you have so many choices as to where you take your lash education courses, and why wouldn’t there be? Years ago there were only a few educators and a few lash artists, but today the market is saturated with both. Many lash artists quickly begin teaching others, taking what they learn, tweaking or customizing information and rewriting it out to create their own courses. That’s a lot of what the lash industry is though, isn’t it? Taking information, adjusting it, developing technique and hopefully leaving it in better condition than you found it. The problem in this situation is usually the amount of information in the courses, quality of products in the kits and amount of training needed in order to certify students.
In Canada, the beauty industry is largely unregulated, and that opens the door for anyone to certify others.
We totally get it. Educators have to get their start somewhere and while many lash artists do go on to have quality lash education businesses, many others, do not.
So this is where it becomes important to choose your course correctly, and based on quality and not price.
When you start shopping around for your lash course, it’s important to do your research and ask your educator some important questions. Here is a list of general questions you should be asking but feel free to add any of your own that you would like to know.
Educators should be able to answer any question that you have regarding their courses, their policies and their own education in the field. It can be tempting to choose the cheapest or quickest course but when a classic course is a day long, chances are it’s missing vital information that you need to know to be confident and successful in your business.
At the end of the day, your lash education should be informative, comprehensive, reflective of current industry standards and offer continued support.
What other questions are you going to ask your future educator?

]]>As the last rays of summer have definitely gone, the changes that winter will bring are creeping up and for lash artists, that could mean trouble. Now that we have hopefully made our peace with shedding season, it’s time to focus on creating the perfect environment in colder and drier (or sometimes even more humid) weather.
Lash artists all over the world are trying their best to keep up with the change of weather, so here are our best tips on setting your lash space up for success for this coming winter.
Some of you may feel a bit lost on this post, maybe you didn’t get a hygrometer in your kit or your educator didn’t go through the importance of your lash room environment and how it changes your application. It happens. For those of you who are unsure about how to manipulate your temperature and humidity, here’s a quick lesson, but there are tons of resources out there so make sure you spend a bit of time researching.
The adhesive we use does two things, it dries and it cures. When we apply a lash extension, it needs moisture to cure from the inside, but the room also has to be warm enough to dry the adhesive from the outside.
Every bottle of adhesive comes with the optimal ranges in which it performs at its best, this is the number of seconds it takes to dry. Some are a .5-1 second or maybe 1-2 second.
Your temperature is how warm your lash space needs to be to begin the drying process.
The RH or relative humidity, is the amount of moisture in the air that is needed to start the curing process. When we set up our rooms, we need to make sure the ranges (temperature and humidity) are at the recommended levels for the adhesive we are using.
This is why we want to preheat the room, give the room or the space enough time to warm up, it's easy to warm up the space with a little space heater or hit the AC a bit to bring it down. When changing the humidity levels, we want to use a humidifier or diffuser to introduce moisture into the environment. In some places, the weather is very humid, and a dehumidifier would be a great appliance to have. It sucks the moisture out, bringing down the humidity. Usually a small dehumidifier needs to run for a while, in a small space, with the door closed, to be effective. You can also purchase larger units.
So what happens when there is too much moisture or not enough? If you ever wonder why you keep getting stickies, or the extension won’t stick at all, it’s likely that your levels are out of range. Too much humidity and the lash cures quickly but isn’t drying on the outside, causing stickies. Too much heat and low humidity and the adhesive is drying before you get it to the natural lash.
There are many articles, videos and resources available to further educate yourself on the chemistry of lash adhesive or drop us an email if you have any questions and we would be happy to chat info@mintlashes.com
So what do you think? Did you learn something new about lash adhesives? Did you get an AHA!! moment and finally figure out how to solve an issue in your own lash environment?
We’d love to hear about it in the comments and don’t forget to check out the feature product, perfect for the upcoming season.

The weekend is fast approaching and as many people are getting ready to wind down and relax, I am getting geared up for a super productive weekend of planning and writing. Yesterday's blog post got me super excited for goal setting and planning the rest of the year out in terms of what I can do to succeed. The list is long my friends. I have a lot I want to jump on but, it can definitely feel overwhelming. I know I’m not alone here and sitting down to use the SMART formula for goal setting can feel like a lot to do.
#procrastinatorextraordinaire
So let’s chat about little wins.
Instead of getting right to the big goal, focusing on little wins is another way to take steps forward and it's super helpful for when you feel overwhelmed.
So what is a little win? It could be anything. For business it could be booking a new client, reorganizing your lash studio or trolley, or shaving 15 minutes off your usual application time (go you!). Sometimes it can be as small as getting to the gym, folding all the laundry or making time for yourself without your partner/kids/phone. Personal little wins are just as important to your success.
One of the best ways to recognize little wins is to express gratitude. This can be as easy as writing down three things that you are grateful for at the beginning or the end of your day. Alternatively you could spend a few quiet moments to go over all of the things you accomplished or you are proud of. Without even trying, your little wins will pop into your head and you can express gratitude and congratulate yourself.
“If you woke up tomorrow to only the things you've expressed your gratitude for today, then what would be missing from your life in the morning?”
― Nanette Mathews
Slowly but surely, this practice of patting yourself on the back and expressing gratitude will become a positive daily habit that will get you closer to your goals. Of course, there will be days when you don’t feel like you want to, and that’s okay. After really hard days, I still give thanks for things that were the highlight of my day, takeout instead of having to make dinner, quiet moments when my kids are playing (and not fighting) or just the fact that I finally made it to bedtime after a rough day.
So how will you celebrate your little wins? Do you already have a gratitude practice? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to check us out on Instagram www.instagram.com/m.intlashes

]]>The more you say it, the funnier it sounds.
Goals.
But for real, let’s talk about goals for a moment. We are now facing the last three months of the year, and what a year it’s been.
I had so many amazing goals set for 2020, I was going to achieve them all and then…
So if you’re like me, you’re ready to make some amazing goal for the rest of the year and see them through. Let’s finish the year off right.
Setting goals is one of the best ways you can achieve them but it’s not the only step you need to take.
‘A goal without a plan is just a dream’ and it’s true! You can decide you’re going to achieve anything but unless you take specific action using a proven formula, that might just end up being a dream on a post-it note on your desk.
How do we set achievable goals? Great question! If you’ve ever worked with a life or business coach, you probably already know the answer to that one. It takes a bit of planning but the time you spend working on your goals can be the difference between success and dreaming.
The secret formula is a SMART one.
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Time-bound
When setting goals it’s important to follow the formula to be able to break your goal down into bite-sized pieces that are easy to accomplish.
This about the Specific of your goal, for example ‘I want to bring on three new clients’ this is a great start, but let’s go further. What are the clients coming to see you for? Returning every couple of weeks? What services do you want to perform? Get right down into the specifics of the goal and create a deadline.
‘I want to bring on one new consistent volume lash client, and two new waxing or dermaplaning clients to return at least once a month. I would like this to happen by the end of the month. ‘
Next, let’s decide if this is a Measurable goal. How can you track your progress? For this goal, you can track your progress by filling spots in your books, confirming the appointments and keeping track of finances. If you’re a visual person, you can create a calendar and mark appointments, use post-it notes or set reminders for yourself to keep on track and check your progress.
‘I want to bring on one new consistent volume lash client, and two new waxing or dermaplaning clients to return at least once a month. I would like this to happen by the end of the month. I will create a calendar and circle the spaces I would like to fill, I will also leave post-it notes so I can remember to check in.’
This should give us a great idea of how Attainable this goal is. How much time can you put into it daily? Weekly? Monthly? Is it something that you can accomplish? Break down the steps you need to take to get to the goal.
‘I want to bring on one new consistent volume lash client, and two new waxing or dermaplaning clients to return at least once a month. I would like this to happen by the end of the month. I will create a calendar and circle the spaces I would like to fill, I will also leave post-it notes so I can remember to check in. I will put in 20 minutes every other day to reach out to past clients, post my availability to social media and ask my clients for referrals.’
By now you will be able to tell if the goal is Realistic, is this something that will work for you and your schedule? What are the barriers and how can you get past them? Be honest with yourself and make a backup plan for when you may miss a day of posting or forget to ask for a referral.
‘I want to bring on one new consistent volume lash client, and two new waxing or dermaplaning clients to return at least once a month. I would like this to happen by the end of the month. I will create a calendar and circle the spaces I would like to fill, I will also leave post-it notes so I can remember to check in. I will put in 20 minutes every other day to reach out to past clients, post my availability and ask my clients for referrals. I will set reminders to do this between my clients or in the morning so I don’t forget.’
The last portion of goal setting is to make sure your goal is Time-Bound. This is setting a deadline for your goal. Put it in the calendar. Tell your partner or a friend. Post about it and let your clients know. Give yourself a due date to get to this finished and let people know to help keep you accountable. When we make a goal and just say ‘I’ll get there one day’, there's nothing keeping you on track because there is no track. Set the date and check in to make sure you’re moving forward.
I will set reminders to do this between my clients or in the morning so I don’t forget. I will accomplish this goal by November 1st, 2020.’
By now you should have a crystal clear goal and a detailed idea how you are planning on achieving it! By spending a few minutes at the beginning of the month or every week, you can review your plan, check off your progress and see yourself get closer and closer.
We would love to hear what your goals are for the rest of the month or the year, post them in the comments below and get started! Would you like some more guidance or do you have questions? We are here to help you kick-butt in your lash business and would love to hear from you. Send us an email and we can help get you started.

]]>It’s been a tough few weeks but things are slowly starting to open up and trust me, your lash girl, hairdresser and favourite nail tech are just as excited to see you as you are to see them. Here are a few ways you can make the experience enjoyable and safe, for you and for them.
Do Your Research
Check out their website, Instagram or Facebook for any changes in hours, booking procedures and policies then follow them to a T. If you used to be able to call up on Saturday afternoon and get a spot, chances are that's not the case now, most places have a limited number of clients they can see in a day and a very long waiting list.
Expect Changes
Many of the new regulations include masks for service providers and clients, no additional guests, pre-payment to name a few. Most of the changes being enforced are most likely passed down from the local health authority or government, and are the conditions that must be followed in order to open their doors so don’t be surprised if things look and feel a little different. You may be required to bring your own mask, or even a pillow and blanket to lash services, so double check when booking and come prepared so you don’t lose your appointment.
Stay home if you’re sick
This one should be obvious. Reschedule your appointment if you feel unwell or if you show any symptoms of illness, including fever or cough. If a cough or sneeze comes on while you’re in the salon, make sure to aim into the crook of your elbow and away from others. And wash your hands.
Show your support
Small businesses need our support now, more than ever. Besides following the new regulations, show them some love by:
Be kind
Above all else, please be kind.
Our beauty service providers are now having to learn and follow brand new protocols, manage a lengthy wait list and keep themselves safe at work. We’re all human, it's important to remember this as we all navigate the new way our services will operate going forward. While you should feel comfortable raising concerns regarding your treatments, businesses cannot, under any circumstance, bend the rules for anyone so don’t even ask.
Today our beauty services are so much more of a luxury than they were before, people are risking their own health to return to work and your cooperation is essential in making sure that everyone can be safe and services like these can remain open.
Be helpful, be grateful and be beautiful.

Full sets for everyone, amirite? So we just know you read our last post on posture and made sure to check yourself and stretch between clients, right?
We wanted to keep it up and make sure you’re taking care of yourself too, not just your back.
Self-care is important for your mind, body, and soul. Here are some important tips to follow as a lash artist.
Most importantly love yourself 💙
]]>You know what that means… All. The. Full. Sets.
You’re gonna be a busy girl, so make sure you take care of yourself by keeping your posture in check, here are some quick tips to avoid the dreaded lashers backache.
Set up your workstation for good posture
Your body, arms, neck, hands, wrists and fingers should be comfortable. If you are not comfortable, relaxed, balanced, or if your positioning restricts your movement, you will NOT be able to perform. Often, simple changes in your positioning will mean success or failure when applying lashes. Your number one concern is making sure you’re positioning yourself correctly.
Positioning checkpoints
It’s easy to feel like you should push through, especially with so many clients in need and likely banging down your door, but don’t forget to set time limits, take breaks and stretch your body and legs between clients. Wishing you all the best for a busy week ahead.
